Laxdale Primary School is situated in the village of Laxdale. The catchment area includes: Newmarket, Benside, Bakers Road, Newvalley, Napier Hill, Laxdale, Bennadrove, Marybank, and Maryhill. We currently have a roll of 148.
The school caters for children from Primary 1 to Primary 7 and includes provision for Gaelic Medium Education. The school is non-denominational.
The school has responsibility for Sgoil Araich Lacasdail and Laxdale Nursery. These groups are situated in, and benefiting from, brand new classrooms in our school extension.
The group has twenty 2-5 year old children. They meet and engage regularly in joint learning sessions with the Primary 1 classes.
The Sgoil Araich / Nursery is open every day from 8.30a.m. – 5.30p.m.
We are the first school ever in Lewis and Harris to be awarded the Gold School Sports Award from Sport Scotland.
This award comes after a year of hard work from our entire school community in the 2018-19 session.
Our aim is, of course, to maintain a high standard in sporting participation and achievement in the years ahead.
Laxdale was first awarded the Eco Green Flag Status in 2011 as a result of the outstanding work done by pupils within the school and in the wider community. This high standard must be maintained and the school is reassessed every two years by Eco Schools Scotland.
This year we received our fifth Green Flag award and as we continue to focus on the importance of caring for our environment we have begun working towards our sixth.
We started our Rights Respecting School Award (RRSA) journey in August 2019. Laxdale pupils and staff worked hard throughout session 2019-20 to raise the profile of ‘Children’s Rights’ throughout the school. Our hard work was recognised when we were awarded our Silver Award, after a virtual assessment, in June 2020.
The RRSA is all about creating safe and inspiring places to learn, where children are respected, their talents are nurtured and they are able to thrive. As a Rights Respecting School, we strive to embed these values into daily school life to give children the best chance to lead happy, healthy lives and to be responsible, active citizens.

To Help promote healthy snacks in school the Parent Council have funded free fruit for the younger pupils until the end of the term.
We hope to continue this into next term.
The cost per term is approx £400. We would love to continue this for as long as possible and any donations towards helping us achieve this would be very much appreciated.
